Today, I follow my dog’s lead (no pun intended). We go to the park, as usual. He runs untethered, explores the beaver dams, pushes his nose into tufts of grass, and chases a butterfly. I watch.
He goes after the sticks I throw, digs deep holes in the bark-covered park trail, and rolls in the grass while twisting his big body with miraculous flexibility. I watch.
He eats some grass, cocks one ear at the sound of a woodpecker, chews on a twig, and eats more grass. I do not rush him. I watch.
He settles down in a sunny meadow laden with buttercups and daisies, giving some Vogue poses. I click furiously. I watch.
After a long, long time, he gets up, shakes himself off, looks at me, and starts walking home. Today, time does not adhere to a linear continuum.
I don’t know who has the bigger grin!

Life with a dog is a reminder to find joy and harmony in the quotidian, as the lovely set of reflections demonstrates.
